Adrianne Haslet-Davis dances again for the first time since the Boston terrorist attack last year.

When the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon finish line, Adrianne Haslet-Davis lost the lower half of her left leg in the explosion. She’s a ballroom dance teacher, and she assumed she would never dance again. With most prosthetics, she wouldn’t.

But Hugh Herr, of the MIT Media Lab, wanted to find a way to help her. He created a bionic limb specifically for dancers, studying the way they move and adapting the limb to fit their motion. (He explains how he did it here.)

At TED2014, Adrianne danced for the first time since the attack, wearing the bionic limb that Hugh created for her.

Hugh says, “It was 3.5 seconds between the bomb blasts in the Boston terrorist attack. In 3.5 seconds, the criminals and cowards took Adrianne off the dance floor. In 200 days, we put her back. We will not be intimidated, brought down, diminished, conquered or stopped by acts of violence.”

Amen to that, Hugh.

Today. Today… At the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other. Today there is not a man nor woman in here that shall stand alone. Not today. Today we face the monsters that are at our door and bring the fight to them. Today, we are cancelling the apocalypse!

COLLEGE FIRST.

I love how the Addams Family has ZERO slut-shaming. Like… honey you can dance naked and enslave someone with your womanly charms if you want to, I don’t fucking care, but so help me you’re going to get a college education first.

A+ PARENTING

The Addamses are what every family should aspire to be like (you know; without the dismemberment and electric chairs as play time).  Honestly, have you ever seen more unconditionally loving and supportive parents than Gomez and Morticia?  And not just with the kids, but with each other.  I think what’s especially unique about them is how open they are with everything.  They don’t treat their children like children.  They treat them like they treat everyone else; direct, and to the point.

I HAVE to reblog this…

so many shows about a family use a constant abrasion between the parents in order to bring the plot along. not the addams family, no. gomez and morticia were disgustingly in love to the point that gomez kissing up morticia’s arm to her neck is something that even people who haven’t seen the show will recognize. they have a marriage to strive for

Not only that, but at the beginning of the second movie, Pugsly and Wednesday are sitting in the waiting room with another girl. The other little girl tells a long story about how her mom’s having a baby because of magic and storks and gifts and fairy godmothers. Wednesday regards her blandly, “oh, that’s nice. Our parents had sex.” The kids already understand this. No fairy tales, no magic, Morticia and Gomez gave them the talk and respected them for it, and their kids accepted it and understood it. Meanwhile, the ‘normal’ parents apparently couldn’t give it to their daughter straight about how babies were born and instead told her something about magic and storks creating babies.

It was among the worst times I’ve felt truly awful about the ‘normal’ people in the Adams family movies. I’ve felt bad about them before that point, but that scene made me feel AWFUL about them.

And when Debbie gives her spiel about her backstory, they sit there in the electric chairs and respectfully listen. Even give commentary on how she’s right, they understand exactly how she feels. They don’t put her down for being crazy, they accept her, even as she’s threatening their lives. They aren’t mad, they aren’t upset, they aren’t panicking-they respect her right to have a breakdown and monologue.

The Adams family is unusual, certainly, but they’re good people. As odd as it sounds. They carry themselves with their heads held high, accept and respect the unusual and usual alike, and do their best to deliver their opinions honestly and openly.

THIS.

Something I made for myself. The bunny is my logo ( angipauly.com) , and the crown of roses is inspired by my grandmother’s garden, which she used to love dearly.

The world need more gentleness and kindness, I feel, this is something we must remind ourselves and others.

Might be doing some prints and t-shirts of this! Are you intrested? reblog with your comment! 200 re-blogs and I’ll host a giveaway!

This is adorable!
